Freedom of information legislation, WoB, Liberté d’informer, Right to Information – all these names cover the right of the public to know what their institutions do. They are powerful tools to unearth credible information, but how to get started? And which laws to use – which are strongest, most suitable for the topic you work with? This presentation helps you to understand the overall structures so you can get started. In principle these laws resembles each other: the citizens get the right to access to information, while fields like privacy, business and security enjoy varying degrees of protection. There are regional, national and international laws in hierarchic structures and it can make sense to use thematic or other countries laws than ones own.
