The European Investigative Journalism and Dataharvest Conference organised by Journalismfund.eu, is the most relevant networking event for investigative and data journalists in Europe. Dataharvest EIJC17 will take place on Friday 19, Saturday 20 and Sunday morning 21 May 2017, with a pre-conference Hack Day on Thursday 18 May.
Across the world, governments and companies are involved in natural resource projects, generating billions of dollars. Continued effort in making the sector more transparent has led to an increasing amount of information becoming available. The European Union Accounting Directive (from 2013) requires extractives companies based in EU countries to disclose payments they make to governments anywhere in the world. Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) will present the findings and data from analysis of extractives company payments worth more than 1,000 projects reported across more than 100 countries using disclosures from EU based companies. They will share suggestions on how to use the data for research and investigations.
