The European Investigative Journalism and Dataharvest Conference organised by Journalismfund.eu, is the most relevant networking event for investigative and data journalists in Europe. Dataharvest EIJC17 will take place on Friday 19, Saturday 20 and Sunday morning 21 May 2017, with a pre-conference Hack Day on Thursday 18 May.

Introduction to statistics - Picking the right tool depends on what your data looks like. We cover: categorical and continuous data, descriptive statistics, normal distribution, polls, margins of error and other basics. Then we'll work on the first and simplest test, correlation. In this series we'll use data from sports, student test scores and spending, among others; each class will build on the next. Familiarity with Excel navigation and formulas; beginner statistics. NOTE: We'll be using the Analysis ToolPak in Excel on PCs provided by the venue. You can use your own computer, HOWEVER, be aware that many versions of Excel for Mac do not have the full ToolPak capability. Check your computer before you attend the class by doing the following:

Start Excel for Mac.
Click Tools, and then click Add-Ins.
Click the Data Analysis ToolPak. Then, click OK.
Locate Data Analysis ToolPak on the Data tab.
If it does not install, you can't use ToolPak. Only 25 people allowed in, first come first serve.
