The Bristol Cable is a citywide media co-operative publishing in print and online. It produces public interest journalism and has a dynamic and democratic structure for its 1600 paying members. The Cable is redefining local journalism both in terms of content and business model. It conducts original investigations, amplifies local voices, hosts educational training, and provides national and international context to situate its coverage. The Cable has investigated a range of issues, from Bristol entities found in the Snowden Leaks, to tax dodging property developers, and the shady deals between city council and corporations. The Bristol Cable is among the more interesting local journalism start-ups in a time when local media ownership in many European countries is getting more and more centralised.
